The Prime Minister Honorable Ratnasiri Wickremanayake, Mr Austin, Dr Gamage, Dr Simpson, Dr Mrs Senadira (Director of Karapitiya Hospital), Dr Lahie (First Host Surgeon), Dr Neville Fernando (First local co-sponsor) and Dr Mohan Jayatilake spoke.

They were introduced by Miss Lakshi de Silva, Miss Anuruddhika Pushpamala, Miss E.W.Thisari, Miss Chamalie Dilrukshi, Miss Divindi Palliakkara, Miss Gayani Ratnaprobodhi, Miss Siluni Fernando and Miss Gayani Rashmi, they were the stars, and the show was theirs.

The event worked to clockwork precision, and the Prime Minister left on time as he was leaving to China that evening. The Prime Minister was rather taken by surprise by our organisation and has expressed his desire to meet us in London when he comes over for the Commonwealth Prime Ministers Conference in November.

In addition to meeting us, the Prime Minister wished to discuss about raising funds to purchase an Echo-cardiograph for the Cardiac wing of Karapitiya Hospital, the unit we took was on loan from GE, and had to be imported specifically to UK from their factory in Israel, and returned back. The images produced by this machine is so clear, it helps with accurate diagnosis and be a useful item for Dr Gamage. The machine costs $100,000.00 together with all the probes. Guy’s Mercy Mission has offered to start the funds off by donating a quarter, we should also be able to get a special price from the manufacturers, and have the equipment zero rated for tax, there is a group of businessmen in Sri Lanka who will also collect funds for this purpose.
