Mission 1

It was a chance meeting when Jai Lameer, a London resident originally from Sri Lanka underwent coronary artery bypass surgery under the care of Conal Austin, consultant cardiac surgeon-Guy's Hospital. Through great effort on the part of Mr Lameer, Mr Austin and his team the project was brought to life.

AIM

The aim of our Mercy Missions is to provide an expert team of paediatric cardiac surgical, cardiological, anaesthetic and intensive care physician personnel to travel to Colombo and perform cardiac surgical operations on fully investigated and diagnosed congenital cardiac conditions. To manage the post operative children in the intensive care unit until they are fit and stable enough to be discharged in to the ward.

In addition to this, daily lecture programmes, teaching and practical operative experience, anaesthetic instructions and consultant led specialist intensive care management will be held, which will benefit our hosts and visitors.

One of the prime aims of the project would be to establish links to promote the future training of medical personnel with a fellowship at Guys Hospital in London. This, we would regard, as being of paramount importance to carrying on further development of congenital cardiac surgery in Sri Lanka.

OBJECTIVES

The objective is to raise enough funds to enable our continuing Mercy Missions to travel to Sri Lanka and fulfill the aims detailed above. We hope to achieve our objective by raising funds from donors, soliciting interest from companies willing to sponsor the trip and the continuing help and support from the Guy's team, friends, family members and you.

We hope to continue the hard work on the part of the Guy's team, Jai Lameer, team members, sponsors and donors not only in making our missions a success but to increase their frequency and impact into rural Sri Lanka.

THE CHALLENGE: TARGET VS OUR TIME

To fulfill the basis requirements of a mission we require a minimum figure of £20,000. We plan our missions six to nine months in advance - taking a full cardiac team from Guy's for two weeks needs organising!, therefore we are constantly raising funds for the next mission.
